Billy Stanfield III, a fast-rising 2028 wing from Maryland, will take an unofficial visit to the Hill on Saturday, Aug. 23, to play in Syracuse basketball's annual Elite Camp, I've learned.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Stanfield is a standout rising sophomore at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Md. This spring and summer, he played well for the 15U squad of the Baltimore-based Team Melo in Nike's EYBL league.

In late August, the Orange staff holds its Elite Camp, where high school prospects across different recruiting cycles compete while 'Cuse coaches evaluate them. Usually, several participants are offered scholarships immediately after the Elite Camp, and it wouldn't surprise me if Stanfield picks up a Syracuse basketball offer at some point sooner rather than later.

As a freshman at Calvert Hall College during the 2024-25 season, Stanfield averaged 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game in the ultra-competitive Baltimore Catholic League. From a recruiting standpoint, the Washington, D.C., to Baltimore corridor is a key georgraphic market for the Syracuse basketball staff, and Orange coaches have deep ties to this region.

Syracuse basketball is showing an interest in 2028 wing Billy Stanfield III.

For a while now, Stanfield, a talented shooting guard/small forward, has been on the radar of the 'Cuse staff. I'm told that at this point in his recruitment, Syracuse basketball is one of his top schools.

Stanfield's scholarship offer sheet to date includes schools such as Villanova, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, TCU and West Virginia. According to 247Sports, he's receiving interest from teams including the Orange, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas.

In mid-June of next year, college coaches will be able to initiate direct communication with 2028 prospects, so look for Stanfield's offer list to continue growing in the coming months and after the contact period for this class opens.

As recruiting Web sites update and expand their 2028 national rankings, Stanfield should emerge as a high-four-star or five-star prospect, while entering the top 50 overall, if not higher than that.

During the EYBL regular season, Stanfield averaged 9.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. Last month, at the EYBL's season-ending Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., he averaged 8.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.

Earlier this month, analysts and scouts deemed Stanfield a top performer at the annual Crossroads Elite Invitational in Kansas City, Kan. Eric Bossi, the national basketball director for 247Sports, was on hand at this showcase.

Bossi wrote that "Stanfield is probably a bit of a combo forward. He's got the ideal body type (long arms, slender strong frame) and 6-foot-6 size of a high-level wing, but he's probably most effective scoring near the rim, getting on the glass and defending on the interior. We first saw the Baltimore native at last year's Crossroads camp and the strides he's made over the last year are pretty significant. He's much more aggressive attacking the rim and playing with growing confidence that should suit him well down the road."

To date, the Orange staff has offered scholarships to at least seven prospects in the 2028 class that I'm aware of, while displaying an interest in other rising sophomores such as Stanfield and point guard Jayden Robinson, who plays on the West Coast for former Syracuse basketball star Scoop Jardine.
