Earlier this week, Syracuse basketball officially entered the recruitment of 2026 five-star point guard Dylan Mingo by extending a formal scholarship offer to the fast-rising New York product.
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Mingo is one of the hottest players in his class around the country these days, seeing his national rankings and scholarship offer sheet simultaneously soar. For months, the Orange staff was showing an interest in Mingo, and he noted the 'Cuse offer in recent days via his X page.
In its latest 2026 update, On3 placed Mingo inside the top five nationwide, at No. 4 overall, as well as the country's No. 1 point guard and No. 1 prospect hailing from the Empire State.
So why does On3 have Mingo in this position? For Syracuse basketball fans who want to get a better understanding of this new Orange target's skill set, let's have a look at what top On3 national analyst/scout Jamie Shaw recently had to say about Mingo.
A top expert dishes on new Syracuse basketball recruit Dylan Mingo, a 2026 five-star point guard.
Shaw starts off by saying that Mingo, a standout with Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., and the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike’s EYBL league, "has the coveted positional size at the lead guard position."
In July, the PSA Cardinals will compete at the EYBL's season-ending Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C. During three spring EYBL sessions, Mingo averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while making 41.8 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from beyond the arc and 77.6 percent from the charity stripe.
To that end, Shaw wrote that Mingo "has shown throughout the early stages of Nike’s EYBL Circuit that he can both collapse a defense off the bounce and guard at the point of attack. The long-armed, 6-foot-5 lead guard has a slippery handle that gets him into advantageous situations inside the teeth of the defense."
Shaw says that the current AAU season is the first occasion where he has gotten to watch Mingo while he has been in a more featured role. The On3 expert adds about the new Syracuse basketball recruit, "Mingo is also an instinctive defender, using his length and positional size to slide on or off the ball and showcasing great instincts in the passing lanes."
Long Island Lutheran is a member of the loaded Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic"). As a senior in the 2025-26 season, Mingo will play with and against other Orange targets in EYBL Scholastic play.
This week, Mingo is one of several Syracuse basketball four-star and five-star recruiting targets in the 2026 and 2027 classes who are suiting up at the prestigious National Basketball Players Association ("NBPA") Top 100 camp in Rock Hill, S.C.
