In recent days, two members of the Syracuse basketball 2025 class put forth some absolutely big-time performances, according to media reports and social media posts.
Those 2025 signees whom I'm referring to in this column are four-star combo guard Luke Fennell from Melbourne, Australia, and three-star wing Aaron Womack from the Milwaukee area.
The 6-foot-6 Fennell and the 6-foot-5 Womack are part of a four-member Orange 2025 class that currently checks in at No. 11 overall via the 247Sports Composite. The other two pledges are four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony from New York City and four-star forward Sadiq White Jr. from Charlotte, N.C.
Fennell, in the 2024-25 season, is suiting up for the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the National Basketball League ("NBL"), a professional league with teams in Australia and New Zealand. Womack, this term, is a standout with Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis.
Syracuse basketball 2025 signees went off this week.
In recent days, Fennell has been competing for Victoria in Australia's U20 national championships. In one game, when Victoria beat South Australia, 104-75, he tallied 31 points in just 23 minutes of court time. Fennell, who also had five rebounds and one assist, went 12-of-19 from the field, 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Liam Badkin, in an article on central.rookieme.com, wrote that "The Syracuse commit was just about unguardable in the win over South Australia, knocking down some tough shots on his way to a game-high 31 points in just 23 minutes of court time. Fennell is a proven scorer throughout his short career, and put his talent in full throttle in the first game of Wednesday."
In looking at several other box scores from this event, Fennell produced 16 points and 13 points in two other encounters. Within the 2025 class, 247Sports rates him as four stars, No. 122 overall, No. 22 at shooting guard and No. 2 in Australia.
Womack, meanwhile, went full beast mode earlier this week. Per a post on X from writer Mark Miller, as Dominican defeated Hamilton High School from Milwaukee, 100-75, Womack poured in a ridiculous 50 points and 17 rebounds.
That's impressive. I've said it in the past: I adamantly believe that the Orange staff found a hidden gem in Womack, who has all kinds of talent yet is supremely underrated in his cycle. Both the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking and the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, for the time being, have Womack in the top 275 nationally and within the top 10 in Wisconsin.
To me, and I'm not a recruiting analyst nor a scout, Aaron Womack is a four-star prospect in the 2025 class, and that shouldn't even be up for debate.
In early October of last year, not long after he verbally committed to Syracuse basketball, I published a piece where I got some insights from several analysts and scouts regarding Womack's skill set. The consensus was clear: he is a high-level shooter and a high-level scorer.
