Siena redshirt sophomore wing Reid Ducharme, a former Syracuse basketball four-star recruiting target in the 2023 class, plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a post on X from Sam Kayser.
Ducharme's head coach at Siena, Gerry McNamara, was officially named the next head coach at Syracuse basketball on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-7 Ducharme, who hails from Milton, Mass., played his first season at Big East Conference member Xavier before transferring to the Saints. Due to injury, Ducharme didn't see any court action in the 2025-26 campaign, when the Saints went 23-12 overall and, as a No. 16 seed, nearly stunned No. 1 seed Duke last Thursday in a round-of-64 battle in the East Region of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

In 2024-25 for Siena, he appeared in 25 games, averaging 13.3 minutes, 4.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest while making 38.9 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 87.0 percent from the free-throw line.
A former Syracuse basketball recruit plans to enter the transfer portal.
Before committing to Xavier, Ducharme was a standout guard/small forward at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., which over the years has sent numerous of its alumni to Syracuse basketball. In August of 2022, he picked the Musketeers over the Orange and Penn State.
Ducharme attended the annual 'Cuse Elite Camp in August of 2021, around which time he landed a scholarship offer from SU. Syracuse basketball coaches recruited Ducharme hard for a while, attending some of his AAU games on Nike’s EYBL circuit, and he also officially visited the Hill before making his college decision.
Within the 2023 cycle, several recruiting Web sites ranked Ducharme inside the top 120 nationally. Whether McNamara might pursue Ducharme at Syracuse remains to be seen. The transfer portal will be open from April 7 to April 21.
Per the NCAA, if there is a head coaching change at a particular school, a 15-day transfer portal window will open five days after the new head coach is hired or announced in the public domain.
In the 2025-26 season, when Syracuse basketball went 15-17 overall, the 'Cuse had 13 primary scholarship players. At least three of them have exhausted their eligibility, and we'll have to see what's to come with the remaining guys on the Orange's 2025-26 roster.
