Depth should not be an issue for Syracuse basketball first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff in the upcoming 2026-27 season.
The Orange's roster is filled with depth (and length) at all position groups for 2026-27, and it was buoyed by the recent news that transfer forward Amarri Monroe has committed to Syracuse basketball. Assuming that he's eligible (more on that here), Monroe brings another veteran to the roster, and he will contend for a starting role. Scouts and others discussed Monroe's all-around game with Inside the Loud House earlier this week.
To me, it's not as important who starts for the 'Cuse in 2026-27; rather, which players garner the most minutes and are on the court in crunch time. It remains to be seen what McNamara's starting five will be at the onset of the upcoming campaign, given that preseason practices haven't even begun.
Still, my best guess is that as many as 10 or 11 guys could get some consistent run in McNamara's rotation in 2026-27. Naturally, as the season carries on, McNamara and his assistants will likely trim down their rotation a bit. It's a pretty fascinating roster.
Projected starting five for Syracuse basketball this season.
Assuming Monroe is eligible, here is the Orange's 16-man roster for 2026-27:
Kiyan Anthony
6-foot-5, 198-pound guard/wing (sophomore)
Ethan Butler
6-foot-4, 210-pound guard (freshman)
Gavin Doty
6-foot-5, 200-pound guard/wing (junior)
Garwey Dual
6-foot-5, 200-pound guard (senior)
Francis Folefac
6-foot-7, 245-pound forward (sophomore)
Tasman Goodrick
6-foot-10, 240-pound forward (senior)
Noah Lobdell
6-foot, 150-pound guard (junior)
Iker Martinez
7-foot, 225-pound center (freshman)
Ryan Moesch
6-foot, 180-pound point guard (freshman)
Amarri Monroe
6-foot-7, 230-pound forward (graduate student)
Mark Morano
6-foot-6, 205-pound wing/forward (freshman)
Calvin Russell III
6-foot-5, 190-pound guard/wing (sophomore)
Abdramane Siby
7-foot, 220-pound center (freshman)
Aiden Tobiason
6-foot-6, 210-pound guard/wing (junior)
Sadiq White Jr.
6-foot-8, 207-pound forward (sophomore)
Luke Wilson
6-foot-10, 255-pound center (junior)
Projected starting line-up:
Point guard: Garwey Dual
Shooting guard: Gavin Doty
Wing/small forward: Aiden Tobiason
Power forward: Sadiq White Jr.
Center: Luke Wilson
Some pundits envision Anthony starting. I think he comes off the bench. Candidly, the Orange could have a second group of key reserves that's pretty darn good, too. Have a look:
Point guard: Ryan Moesch
Shooting guard: Kiyan Anthony or Mark Morano
Wing/small forward: Amarri Monroe
Power forward: Francis Folefac or Tasman Goodrick
Center: Abdramane Siby or Tasman Goodrick
That's 12 guys listed above. I don't think that the remaining four players - Butler, Lobdell, Martinez or Russell - will be on the court much. We'll have to see how this roster fares in terms of its half-court offense and its shooting from beyond the arc, but the Orange's height and length position it well defensively and on the glass. Pumped for hoops!
