Garwey Dual, the four-star transfer guard from McNeese State who is likely to be Syracuse basketball's starting point guard at the onset of the 2026-27 season, is recovering from a dislocated collarbone, Orange first-year head coach Gerry McNamara has said, per a report from Syracuse.com.
It's not clear how the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Dual, who hails from Houston, suffered the injury. McNamara, per the Syracuse.com article, said that Dual should return to summer workouts on the Hill in roughly another three weeks.
That's encouraging, as it would be unfortunate if Dual or any other 'Cuse player is injured at the start of preseason practices. The 2026-27 campaign will get going for real on Monday, Nov. 2, when McNamara and SU will host New Haven at the JMA Wireless Dome.
According to Syracuse.com, "Dual appeared with his left arm in a sling" as he and other members of the current Syracuse basketball roster were in attendance on Thursday night to watch Boeheim's Army advance to the quarterfinals of the $2 million, winner-take-all The Basketball Tournament ("TBT").

Dual, a rising senior who has a 7-foot wingspan, is known for being an excellent defender and a strong facilitator. He suited up for Big East Conference members Seton Hall and Providence before joining McNeese State.
As a junior in the 2025-26 season, Dual averaged 8.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while connecting on 45.6 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from 3-point range and 76.4 percent from the free-throw line. He was named to the Southland Conference's All-Defensive team in 2025-26.
In the 2023 prep class, Dual was a top-40 national prospect who spent his final season before college at the SoCal Academy in the Los Angeles area. This past offseason, in national transfer rankings via On3, Dual was No. 189 overall and No. 16 at combo guard.
Although not a prolific scorer, at least not so far in his collegiate career, Dual fits in well with McMamara's culture and system. Dual, according to analysts, comes to Syracuse basketball as a defensive-minded player who is a selfless teammate, athletic, gritty and tough.
