Barring any unforeseen changes or circumstances, Syracuse basketball head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff have put the final touches on their 15-man roster in the upcoming 2026-27 season.

On Saturday, the Orange scored a pledge from New York City guard Ethan Butler, who spent this past campaign in the Atlanta-based league Overtime Elite and held offers from other college programs such as Siena, where McNamara was previously the head coach, Fairfield, Long Island University, Fordham, Iona and Manhattan.

When the multi-billion-dollar House antitrust settlement was approved and went into effect last summer, it led to a roster limit of 15 players being set for Division I men's basketball teams. Whether Butler will be a walk-on for the 'Cuse, or a scholarship player, isn't all that important; he's part of the 15-player roster limit for the Orange.

Now, my assumption here is that both freshman wing Calvin Russell III, a five-star wide receiver with Syracuse football who joined SU hoops this past Janaury for the remainder of the 2025-26 stanza, and sophomore guard Noah Lobdell will be back for Syracuse basketball in 2026-27.

Should that be the case, McNamara's roster for the upcoming season is wrapped up. Let's have a deeper look at the Orange's line-up.
