Syracuse Football: Talented 3-star recruits from Florida to visit ‘Cuse this spring
By Neil Adler
Two three-star, nationally ranked prospects in the 2025 class, who both play for high school programs in Florida, will take visits to Syracuse football this spring, according to a national recruiting analyst.
The Orange recruits are three-star wide receiver Tyler Williams and three-star edge Romando Johnson.
On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons reported the news of both high school juniors visiting the ‘Cuse soon. Simmons, in a post on X, noted that Williams has several spring visits planned, including one to Syracuse football.
In checking the primary recruiting services, I didn’t see a specific date mentioned for Williams’ upcoming trip to the Hill, but I’ll keep an eye out.
Regarding Johnson, he will take a visit to the Orange on March 23, per a separate post on X from Simmons.
Syracuse football coaches have more visits lined up with 2025 targets.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Williams goes to Sumner High School in in Riverview, Fla., while the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Johnson attends Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Fla.
Both Johnson and Williams received scholarship offers from the new ‘Cuse coaching staff, led by head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, in late January of this year, according to social media posts.
Johnson and Williams are highly sought-after 2025 players. Per recruiting Web sites, each prospect has amassed roughly 30 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs.
Williams’ offer sheet includes schools such as Auburn, Kansas, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Utah, Arkansas, Boston College, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCF, Wake Forest, Oklahoma and West Virginia, among others.
Johnson’s full offer list, meanwhile, features squads including Miami, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Mississippi State, Purdue, Illinois, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Liberty, among others.
When I wrote this column, within the 2025 cycle, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had Williams at No. 536 nationally, No. 78 at wide receiver and No. 76 in Florida.
Johnson, via the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, checked in at No. 468 overall, No. 40 at edge and No. 63 in Florida.
The Orange coaching staff has a lot of positive momentum of late with its 2025 recruiting efforts. Many high school juniors are taking visits to the ‘Cuse in the near future, and Syracuse football has also made final list cuts of numerous highly ranked prospects in this cycle.
In late January, the Orange landed its first 2025 pledge, when four-star edge and top-300 national prospect Sharlandiin Strange of Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa., verbally committed to Syracuse football over other finalists Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Southern California.
