At the beginning of May, 2025 four-star edge Cortez Harris from the talent-rich Washington, D.C., metropolitan area named a top 10 that includes Syracuse football.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end, rated in the top 300 nationally by numerous recruiting services, has a top 10 of the Orange, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, South Carolina and Michigan.

While having an official top 10, Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman says that Harris' "list of major contenders is shorter than that."

According to Friedman, in June, Harris has official visits scheduled to Tennessee, Maryland and Penn State. The Rivals.com national expert further writes, "Florida, Syracuse and Michigan are also potential official visit candidates. Harris is looking at committing on or around July 1, but that date is flexible."

Syracuse football is a solid contender for 2025 four-star edge Cortez Harris.

Needless to say, if the Orange wants to prevail in Harris' recruitment, SU coaches will want to get him on the Hill for an official visit before his commitment announcement.

Per his X page, he picked up a scholarship offer from the Syracuse football staff in December of 2022, when former head coach Dino Babers was still at the helm of the program. Harris is a rising senior at the Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Md.

Virtually all the main recruiting Web sites, within his class, deem Harris as a top-25 edge and a top-10 player coming out of Maryland. Currently, his highest national ranking is from On3, which has Harris at No. 199 overall.

At the time of this writing, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking placed him in the top 265 nationwide within the 2025 cycle.

To date, I'm not seeing any analyst predictions for Harris in his recruiting process. On3's recruiting prediction machine, currently, has Penn State in the No. 1 spot, followed by Maryland and Tennessee.

At this juncture, 'Cuse head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff have received at least 19 verbal commitments in their highly rated 2025 class. On Monday, this Syracuse football cycle was No. 11 via the 247Sports Composite and No. 7, according to Rivals.com.

Among the Orange's 2025 pledges is four-star edge Sharlandiin Strange, who in late January of this year verbally pledged to the 'Cuse over other finalists Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Southern California. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Strange attends Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa.

From June 14 to June 16, 2025 four-star edge CJ May plans to officially visit Syracuse football. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound May, out of Highland Home High School in Highland Home, Ala., is a former Notre Dame verbal commit.

May is ranked as high as No. 145 around the country in the rising high school senior class by 247Sports.
