Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff continue to impress with their 2025 recruiting efforts, locking up another pledge this week from a New York product.
Three-star athlete Amari Colon, a talented 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect who hails from the Empire State, said via his X page on Tuesday that he was offered a scholarship by the Orange and was verbally committing to the 'Cuse.
A big congrats and welcome from Orange Nation to Amari. This past season, per 247Sports analyst Mike McAllister, Colon suited up at both running back and wide receiver for James Monroe High School in Rochester, N.Y.
However, McAllister notes that the Syracuse football staff is recruiting him as a safety. Additionally, Colon is moving from the 2024 class to the 2025 cycle. This coming term, he will attend the Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, N.Y.
Syracuse football, to date, is crushing things with its 2025 class.
Colon, who is described by experts as an ultra-fast player, also has received scholarship offers from Eastern Illinois and Maine, according to his bio on Rivals.com.
In his conversation with McAllister, Colon detailed why he decided to verbally pledge to the Orange. "It all happened because of CTC (Changing the Community program which helps student-athletes in Western New York) and them showing the head coach, coach Brown, my film. I had literally talked to him for like three days and after that he offered me a full ride. I picked them because of that reason. It was shocking at first because of how confident he was in me and how fast it all happened. Overall, I was excited because I knew this was huge for me and my career."
When I wrote this article on Wednesday, the 'Cuse had secured at least 19 verbal commitments in its strong 2025 class.
Geographically speaking, here's the breakdown:
New York: Seven verbal commits
New Jersey: Three verbal commits
Pennsylvania: Three verbal commits
Connecticut: One verbal commit
Georgia: One verbal commit
Texas: Two verbal commits
Virginia: One verbal commit
Massachusetts: One verbal commit
At the time of this writing, the Syracuse football 2025 cycle checked in at No. 6 nationwide via Rivals.com and No. 8 overall from the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
