Syracuse football coaches will find out on Saturday if they have landed their first verbal commitment in the team’s 2025 recruiting class.
Sharlandiin Strange from Pennsylvania, a top-flight four-star edge and a top-300 national prospect in the junior cycle, plans to make his college decision known on January 27.
Earlier this month, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Strange disclosed his five finalists, and they are the Orange, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Southern California.
On Friday night when I wrote this article, I counted at least three predictions in the direction of the ‘Cuse for Strange on Rivals.com. On3’s recruiting prediction machine, at the time of this writing, had Rutgers in the top spot, followed by Penn State.
Syracuse football has some buzz for four-star edge Sharlandiin Strange.
A standout at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa., Strange was offered a scholarship by the Orange in January of 2023.
Throughout his recruitment, per his bio on Rivals.com, he has picked up more than 20 offers from squads such as Boston College, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Texas A&M, USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Akron, James Madison, Buffalo, Charlotte, UConn, Long Island, Pittsburgh and Toledo.
Multiple recruiting Web sites, within the 2025 cycle, rank Strange as a top-300 overall player, a top-30 edge and a top-10 prospect in Pennsylvania within his class.
Should he choose the ‘Cuse on Saturday, Strange would represent a terrific first verbal pledge for the team in the 2025 cycle. He was on the SU campus last weekend for one of the Orange’s junior days, and he caught quite a thrilling Syracuse basketball game.
Syracuse football coaches are likely putting the finishing touches on their 2024 class in the near future, as the ‘Cuse has secured commitments from at least 20 high school seniors and 12 college transfers.
Turning their efforts more toward 2025, the Orange coaching staff has doled out a bevy of scholarship offers to highly ranked high school juniors, and the ‘Cuse has made recent list cuts of numerous targets in this cycle, including Strange.
I’m hopeful and optimistic that Syracuse football will hear its name called when Strange makes his commitment announcement later on Saturday.
