Syracuse Football: 247Sports analyst projects 'Cuse against Wisconsin in bowl battle
By Neil Adler
Super early bowl projections continue to arrive for Syracuse football ahead of the 2024 season, which begins for the Orange in late August when the 'Cuse will host Ohio in a non-conference encounter.
Brad Crawford, an analyst with 247Sports, recently unveiled his way-too-early bowl line-up for this coming term, along with his forecast for the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
Crawford has the Orange facing off with Big Ten Conference member Wisconsin at this season's Duke's Mayo Bowl, which is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at 7:30 pm and airing on ESPN. This game will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
In the 2023 campaign, Syracuse football went 6-7 overall, making its second consecutive bowl game. In the upcoming 2024 season, the 'Cuse will attempt to make it three straight post-season bowl bids, this time under first-year head coach Fran Brown.
Pundits widely believe that Syracuse football will make a bowl game in 2024.
Not too long ago, Athlon Sports projected the Orange to face off with East Carolina out of the American Athletic Conference at the 2024 Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md., which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 28, starting at 5:45 pm and with television coverage on ESPN.
Getting back to Wisconsin, the Badgers finished the 2023 season at 7-6 overall. Like Syracuse football, Wisconsin lost its bowl game a term ago, although the Badgers hung tough with top-15 LSU, falling 35-31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl (the Orange, meanwhile, got crushed by South Florida in the Boca Raton Bowl).
About a month ago, Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports published his latest preseason top 25, and he had the Badgers just outside the top 25 in his "next tier."
Wisconsin has a quite challenging 2024 docket. Some of its foes will include Alabama, Southern California, Penn State and Oregon, among others.
In their short all-time series together, per winsipedia.com, Syracuse football is 3-1-1 versus the Badgers, with their last meeting coming in August of 1997, when the 'Cuse destroyed Wisconsin, 34-0, at a neutral site.
