When 2024 four-star commit Elijah Moore dons a Syracuse basketball uniform next season, his recruiting rankings while in high school won’t mean a thing.

For now, though, some of his national rankings within the senior class, to me, are a bit confusing, odd and perplexing.

I’m the first to acknowledge that these sorts of ratings are, to some extent, subjective. They will vary from recruiting Web site to recruiting Web site.

Yet the 2024 national rankings of the 6-foot-4 shooting guard include some fairly sizable disparities, which, frankly, I don’t entirely get.

Moore, by the way, has put up numerous big-time performances in the current 2023-24 season while competing for the Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx, N.Y., which operates as JellyFam while playing in the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite.

The national rankings of Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit Elijah Moore are weird.

Okay. Here’s some context. MADE Hoops recently updated its national ratings for the senior cycle, dropping Moore three spots to No. 137 overall.

ESPN recently refreshed its top 100 of the 2024 class. Moore didn’t make the cut, but ESPN has him as four stars, although I’d respectfully argue that being rated the No. 39 shooting guard is a tad low.

Also not too long ago, 247Sports put out its latest 2024 national rankings, slotting Moore at No. 53 overall, No. 9 at shooting guard and No. 4 in New York.

At the time of this writing, Rivals.com had him at No. 53 nationwide, while Moore was No. 80 overall via On3.

When I wrote this story, the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking had him at No. 75 overall, and Moore was No. 94 nationally via the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Both of these composite rating systems ranked Moore as a top-20 shooting guard and the No. 4 prospect in New York state within his class.

I’m a total homer, but based on Moore’s production as a senior and a junior in high school, along with his fabulous most recent AAU campaign, I’m adamant that he’s a top-60 national prospect in the 2024 cycle, if not higher than that.

An elite long-range shooter, Moore is officially signed with Syracuse basketball. He picked the ‘Cuse over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State.

In the 2022-23 stanza, as a junior for Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, Moore was named to the New York state Catholic High School Athletic Association “AA” All-League first team.

Last spring and summer in grassroots basketball, while starring for the Bronx-based Wiz Kids in the Adidas 3SSB league, Moore averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and he connected on 46.3 percent from beyond the arc, according to The Circuit, which named him its offensive MVP on the 3SSB circuit.
