Syracuse basketball coaches, led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, have reached out to numerous 2028 prospects since the contact period opened on June 15, enabling college coaches to initiate direct communication with rising high school juniors.

One of those 2028 players who has recently heard from the new Orange staff is four-star combo guard Rowan Phillips from the Philadelphia area. That's according to a post on X from MADE Hoops scouting analyst Trent Watson.

The 6-foot-6 Phillips, a top-20 national prospect in his class per 247Sports, has heard from some heavyweight programs since June 15, including Duke, UConn, BYU, Auburn, Alabama and Michigan State, among many others.

Phillips attends Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pa. He has also suited up in the past for the Westtown School in West Chester, Pa. On the AAU circuits this spring and summer, Phillips is competing for the 16U squad of the Philadelphia-based Team Final in Nike's EYBL league (alongside other SU recruiting targets).

Syracuse basketball should offer 2028 four-star combo guard Rowan Phillips.

This weekend, college coaches, including the Orange staff, have checked in on prospects at various events amid a scholastic live period where players suit up for their high school programs, rather than their AAU teams.

Archbishop Wood has competed at Philly Live in Philadelphia. Both McMamara and SU assistant coach Ryan Daly have been on hand at Philly Live. On Sunday, per a social media post, Phillips dropped 30 points in an Archbishop Wood victory over DMV powerhouse St. John's College High School from Washington, D.C.

According to recruiting services, Phillips' scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Rutgers, Oklahoma State, Penn State, VCU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Within the 2028 cycle, 247Sports has him at No. 20 overall, No. 2 at shooting guard and No. 3 in Pennsylvania. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite places Phillips at No. 33 nationally, No. 4 at shooting guard and No. 3 in Pennsylvania.

Over at the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, he is No. 33 around the country, No. 8 at shooting guard and No. 3 in Pennsylvania. In late August of 2024, Phillips took an unofficial visit to the Orange program to compete in SU's annual Elite Camp.

For Team Final in the current AAU season, he is averaging 18.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while connecting on 48.9 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Two of Phillips' Team Final teammates hold offers from the new Syracuse basketball staff. They are 2028 four-star combo guard Carter Smith and 2028 five-star center Logan Chwastyk.
