Not every aspect of Syracuse's victory over the Clemson Tigers was a win for the Orange. During the 34-21 upset, starting quarterback Steve Angeli went down with a non-contact injury.
After the game, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown had a disheartening update on his QB1, altering the outlook for the rest of the season.
Angeli will be "out for a long time," Brown said on the team's postgame radio show.
Earlier in the game, Angeli had been hit hard and momentarily exited the game, but was able to return. When he went down the second time, it was on a quarterback keep; he simply stumbled and went to the ground without being touched.
As the Orange headed to the locker room at the end of the game, Brown was seen talking to Angeli, and the only part of the conversation that he shared was that he had told his quarterback he loved him.

After transferring to Syracuse from Notre Dame, Angeli quickly locked down the starting role and proved he deserved the job even quicker.
Before going down with the injury in the third quarter, Angeli had earned 244 passing yards and two touchdowns, running for an additional 21 yards and one touchdown on the ground. So far this season, the veteran QB has earned over 1,000 yards through the air for eight touchdowns, throwing just two interceptions.
When Angeli left the game for the second time, backup quarterback Rickie Collins stepped up to the plate, throwing three completions for 34 yards and a touchdown.
As the Orange moved forward with the victory and onto the next game, it would be without Angeli holding the reigns of the offense. Syracuse is scheduled to face the Duke Blue Devils in Week 5.
The Orange and the Blue Devils, who just defeated the NC State Wolfpack, are scheduled to kick off at noon ET on Saturday, Sept. 27, and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
