Fran Brown's Syracuse football scores 3-star OL from Florida and a flip could be on the way

It's a busy recruiting time for Syracuse football, with commits, misses and potentially, flips both ways.

It's official visit season, commitment season and flip season for Syracuse football and its peers around the country in the 2027 class.

The Orange, this weekend, has hosted various 2027 verbal commits and recruiting targets on official visits to the Hill. In recent days, SU has landed several pledges in the rising high school senior class, missed on a few targets and seen a commit flip to a Southeastern Conference powerhouse.

Plus, based on social media posts, we may hear news soon that Syracuse football has made a flip of its own in the 2027 cycle. Stay tuned for that.

On Sunday afternoon, 2027 three-star offensive lineman Nico Ramos out of the American Heritage Schools in Plantation, Fla., verbally committed to the Orange. He has been on an official visit to SU this weekend.

Head coach Fran Brown and his staff beat out many suitors for the 6-foot-6, 315-pound Ramos, who, according to 247Sports, had accumulated 30 offers from teams such as Northwestern, Rutgers, Duke, Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Purdue, SMU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others.

Last Thursday, the Orange picked up verbal pledges from 2027 four-star wide receiver Chanin Harris of James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C., and 2027 defensive lineman Edan Richardson of Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Fla. Both players officially visited the 'Cuse from May 29 to May 31.

Also on Sunday afternoon, some social media posts from Syracuse football assistant coaches have led me to believe that the Orange could be on the verge of flipping its own 2027 prospect. Who? I'm not entirely sure, but based on chatter, keep an eye on 2027 three-star edge Braylon Otis, a local product out of Liverpool High School in Liverpool, N.Y.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Otis, who verbally committed to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference foe Boston College on February 9 of this year, has been on an official visit to the 'Cuse this weekend. One other thing to mention: On his X profile, Otis says he's a "Jones High School Athlete."

On June 2, he retweeted a post from 2027 four-star edge Frederick Ards III, who attends Jones High School in Orlando, Fla. It's possible that Otis has transferred to Jones for his senior year.

Not everything is rosy, though, for Syracuse football.

The Orange is putting together a solid 2027 class so far, but the team will miss on targets. On Sunday, 2027 three-star tight end Joey Hunter out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., verbally pledged to Big Ten Conference school Nebraska.

Hunter had a final five of Syracuse football, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, N.C. State and Pittsburgh. He had eyed an official visit to the 'Cuse from June 18 to June 20.

As I noted last week, the Orange has recently swung and missed on a handful of 2027 targets who opted for other suitors, such as four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes, three-star defensive back Aidyn Wiggins and three-star offensive lineman Jackson Albright.

On Saturday night, 2027 three-star tight end Michael Nnabuife out of the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore flipped his verbal commitment from Syracuse football to Alabama, an SEC juggernaut that he was officially visiting this weekend. I had reported that Nnabuife was going to officially visit the Orange from June 12 to June 14, but I'll have to check as to whether that trip remains on the calendar.

Brown and his assistants currently have 15 verbal pledges in a 2027 class that is No. 31 overall via 247Sports and No. 35 nationally, according to the Rivals Web site.
