KingJoseph Edwards, a former Syracuse football defensive lineman, is expected to visit the program on Friday night as the Orange hosts North Carolina at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Edwards noted the game invite on his X page, and a source confirmed to me earlier on Friday that Edwards is planning to be at this Atlantic Coast Conference showdown. Love it.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Edwards suited up for the 'Cuse in the 2024 season as a freshman. He appeared in five contests, including the bowl game, to preserve his redshirt. According to SU Athletics, in 2024, Edwards tallied five tackles, three tackles for a loss, three sacks and a quarterback hurry.

This past July, he decided to enter the transfer portal. In the current campaign, Edwards has been playing for Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., near Albany.

Later in July, Orange head coach Fran Brown said he was open to Edwards returning to the program at some point in the future. "We hope that we get the opportunity to get him back in the spring. We think he was a fine pass rusher that we’ll miss," Brown said, per Syracuse.com. "We wish we could’ve had him on the team, but we hope that it’ll work out that he can come back in January."

Per his X page, it looks like Coastal Carolina may have an interest in Edwards, too. He's a great young man, and during his time on the Hill, Edwards was so involved in the community. I sincerely hope he returns to Syracuse football.

In December of 2023, Edwards verbally committed to the 'Cuse and Brown, its new head coach at the time. As a senior, Edwards was a standout at Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Ga.

Within the 2024 recruiting cycle, Edwards was rated as high as No. 275 nationally by ESPN. Looking ahead, the Orange's 2026 class has 29 verbal pledges at this time and is rated No. 28 overall by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. This Syracuse football cycle includes several defensive linemen and edge rushers, such as four-star Jarius Rodgers from Florida, three-star Alexander Haskell from Pennsylvania, three-star Walt Frazier from Pennsylvania, four-star Kamron Wilson from Florida and three-star Kordae Houston from Texas.
