A top expert says Syracuse football is among the programs to watch for Texas A&M redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman once he enters the transfer portal.

According to a post on X, On3 college sports business and transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos says five teams to watch for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Weigman include the Orange, Missouri, Iowa, Louisville and Wisconsin.

Per ESPN statistics, to date in the 2024 season, Weigman has completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 819 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Southeastern Conference member Texas A&M is 8-4 overall and will play in a bowl game this post-season.

When I wrote this article on Wednesday afternoon, within its national transfer rankings, 247Sports had Weigman as four stars, No. 5 overall and No. 1 at quarterback, although such ratings will likely change as other college players decide to hit the transfer portal.

Syracuse football is a squad to watch for Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman, who plans to enter the portal.

As a member of the 2022 class, Weigman was a highly touted prospect who starred for Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas. According to recruiting services, he held nearly 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs.

Within his cycle, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed Weigman as five stars, No. 22 overall, No. 2 at quarterback and No. 5 in Texas.

For some context, it should be noted that Orange assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson, immediately before joining the top-flight staff of first-year head coach Fran Brown, served as the interim head coach and co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

Syracuse football, in the current campaign, is 9-3 overall and checked in at No. 22 in the latest College Football Playoff top-25 rankings unveiled on Tuesday night. The Orange is going bowling for the third straight year, led by record-setting senior quarterback Kyle McCord.

But looking ahead to the 2025 term, McCord will have moved on, hopefully to the NFL. I am curious if the Orange staff is intent on landing a veteran quarterback out of the portal this coming off-season.

The 'Cuse does have several signal-callers on board for its 2025 season, such as freshman Jakhari Williams and redshirt junior Carlos Del Rio-Wilson. Syracuse football also has a pair of 2025 three-star commits in Luke Carney from the Dallas area and Rich Belin from New York City, who both officially signed with the program on Wednesday at the start of the early signing period for high school seniors.
