Four-star J'Lon Lyons, one of the top point guards in the 2027 class who hails from the talent-rich Washington, D.C., market, plans to take official visits to multiple schools coming up, including Syracuse basketball.

That's according to a post from the X account NXN, which notes that the 6-foot-3 Lyons wants to officially visit the Orange, along with other programs such as Alabama, Boston College, Butler, Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Texas, VCU and Virginia.

The former 'Cuse staff, led by then-head coach Adrian Autry and assistant coach Brenden Straughn, offered a scholarship to Lyons last summer, not long after the contact period opened for 2027 prospects. Autry is now an assistant at Virginia, while Straughn is an assistant at Boston College.

It's not clear if the new Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara has re-offered Lyons, although it wouldn't surprise me if he is re-offered by the 'Cuse at some point (and it may have already happened).

Syracuse basketball coaches are pursuing various 2027 players.

Lyons, a rising senior, is a standout at the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md. As a junior during the 2025-26 season, he was named to the prestigious All-Met first team in the DMV, a key recruiting area for the Orange.

In grassroots hoops this spring and summer, Lyons is competing for the 17U squad of the D.C.-based Team Takeover in Nike's EYBL league. To date for Team Takeover in the current AAU season, he's averaging 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest.

According to the Verbal Commits Web site, Lyons' full scholarship offer sheet includes teams such as Boston College, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Butler, Alabama, George Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, Providence, Virginia Tech, Florida State, George Mason, Georgetown and Morehead State.

In a mid-April interview with Pro Insight, Lyons also mentioned Indiana, Kansas and national champion Michigan as groups that he's in contact with, and he said in that interview that Syracuse was a school he was eyeing a possible visit to in the future.

Within the 2027 cycle, both composite rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the Rivals Industry Ranking, have Lyons in the top 55 overall, the top 20 at point guard and No. 2 in Maryland. His highest national ranking comes from ESPN, at No. 44.

Last month, Lyons participated in a USA Basketball U18 national team training camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. He's been selected to compete in the annual National Basketball Players Association ("NBPA") Top 100 Camp, which will take place from June 8 to June 11 in Rock Hill, S.C. The camp overlaps with a live period from June 10 to June 11, and I anticipate the Syracuse basketball staff will be on hand to watch Lyons and other recruiting targets.
