Roughly three-dozen high school prospects across the 2026, 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes are expected to participate in a USA Basketball junior national team minicamp later this month, according to a press release.

Some of these players held scholarship offers from the former Syracuse basketball staff, and I anticipate the new staff, led by head coach Gerry McNamara, will pursue various minicamp participants.

Per the announcement, 35 high school prospects will suit up in the U18 national team training camp, which will commence on Thursday, May 21, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Stemming from that training camp, a 12-member team will be selected ahead of the 2026 FIBA U18 AmeriCup scheduled for June 1 to June 7 in Leon, Mexico.

The head coach of the 2026 U18 national team is Dayton's Anthony Grant. Assistant coaches include Matt Langel from Colgate and Nate Oats from Alabama. Oats, before leading the Crimson Tide, served as the head coach of Buffalo.

Four expected participants in the 2027 class who Orange recruiting fans will want to monitor include Moussa Kamissoko, J’Lon Lyons, Jaydn Jenkins and Reese Alston.

Kamissoko is a five-star wing/forward at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y. He held a scholarship offer from the former 'Cuse staff under head coach Adrian Autry. Kamissoko goes to the same high school as SU freshman guard Kiyan Anthony.

Lyons, a DMV product, is a four-star point guard at the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md. He, too, was offered by Autry's staff, and Lyons had expressed an interest in visiting the Orange program in the past.

Jenkins is a four-star center at Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster, Pa. He didn't previously have an offer from the 'Cuse (that I'm aware of), but Jenkins competed in Syracuse basketball's annual Elite Camp in late August of 2024.

Last but certainly not least, Alston is a five-star point guard at the Second Baptist School in Houston. Alston and the other three prospects noted above are each followed on social media by the new Orange coaching staff, and that could indicate some level of interest by McNamara and his assistants in these 2027 players.
