Last week, 2027 four-star athlete Tristin Hughes de-committed from Syracuse football, but he still plans to take an official visit to the Hill in mid-June.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Hughes, a highly talented defensive back, wide receiver and return specialist in the junior class from Ohio, said via his X page that he will officially visit the Orange from June 19 to June 21.

On February 19, Hughes said on his X page that he would reopen his recruiting process. It seems that the 'Cuse remains in the mix, although as I noted in another recent column, other suitors are pushing hard for Hughes.

Per his X account, Hughes will officially visit Louisville from May 29 to May 31, Kentucky from June 5 to June 7, and Purdue from June 12 to June 14. In September of 2024, he gave a verbal commitment to Syracuse football.

In late January of this year, 'Cuse assistant coaches Perry Eliano and Dre Kates conducted an in-home visit with Hughes.

Syracuse football's 2027 class is in the top 15 nationally.

Hughes is a standout at Rocky River High School in Rocky River, Ohio, near Cleveland. According to recruiting service, he holds nearly 20 scholarship offers from teams such as the Orange, Pittsburgh, UConn, Louisville, Ohio, West Virginia, Arizona State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Maryland and Wisconsin, among others.

In the 2025 season, as a junior, Hughes was terrific for Rocky River, which went 11-3 overall and reached the championship game of the Ohio High School Athletic Association ("OHSAA") Region 10 playoffs.

At the time of this writing, within the 2027 class, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking placed Hughes in the top 400 nationally. Rivals updated its 2027 rankings earlier this week, and he checked in at No. 248 overall, No. 29 at safety and No. 12 in Ohio.

Syracuse football had 10 verbal pledges in its 2027 cycle, but in February, Hughes, three-star defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery from Pennsylvania and three-star athlete Davion Crumitie from Florida have de-committed from the 'Cuse.

Still, the Orange's seven-member 2027 class is ranked No. 11 around the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Also taking an official visit to Syracuse football from June 19 to June 21 is 2027 All-American wide receiver/return specialist Khalil Taylor, a four-star prospect from Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pa., near Pittsburgh.
