As fall recruiting begins, Syracuse basketball in for 5-star priority target Moussa Kamissoko

The fall recruiting period began on Wednesday, Sept. 9, which means Syracuse basketball coaches are expected to check in on high school targets at open gyms while also possibly conducting some in-house visits, especially with 2027 prospects.

In the high school senior class, the Orange staff is prioritizing five-star point guard Nasir Anderson, five-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur and five-star wing/forward Moussa Kamissoko. The 'Cuse also has one verbal pledge in 2027 from three-star wing and Albany, N.Y., product Jack Donohue.

On September 9, per national analyst Jamie Shaw of Rivals, Syracuse basketball was in for the 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko, who has transferred to the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, for his senior year after most recently playing at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y.

In the latest AAU season, the top-15 national prospect Kamissoko starred for the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while making 51.2 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 69.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Syracuse basketball recently hosted 2027 5-star target Moussa Kamissoko on an official visit.

While Kamissoko has yet to make a list cut, he has mapped out a bunch of official visits. He recently made trips to both the Orange and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Florida State, with other official visits planned to Oklahoma State, BYU, Illinois, UConn, Louisville, Baylor and Providence.

Spire is led by the legendary prep head coach Kevin Boyle, who previously captured a couple of high school national titles at the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. In 2025-26, Spire went 29-5 overall and reached the season-ending Chipotle Nationals, which is held in early April in Fishers, Ind.

High school basketball experts have told Inside the Loud House that, in the 2026-27 season, Spire is a significant contender to cut down the nets at next spring's Chipotle Nationals. Rochester, N.Y., native David Johnson, a 2029 five-star wing whose first scholarship offer came in late August 2025 from the former SU staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry, has also transferred to Spire for the upcoming campaign.

Earlier this week, Rivals updated its 2027 national rankings, with Kamissoko arriving at No. 7 nationally. His official visit to the 'Cuse ran from September 3 to September 4. Kamissoko posted some photos from his Syracuse basketball official visit on Instagram.

The comments section was fun. Among those chiming in were Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan Anthony, Chris McCullough, Rakeem Christmas, Michael Carter-Williams, Abdramane Siby and Kevin Wheatley Jr., a 2028 five-star wing who holds an offer from the Orange.
