Will Brunson, a 2028 four-star wing/small forward who holds a Syracuse basketball offer, is on the move.

Per national analyst Sam Kayser, the 6-foot-6 Brunson is transferring to the powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The Ascenders are often one of the best independent basketball academies in the country.

Up until this past season, IMG was a member of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic"), arguably the premier high school hoops conference nationwide. In the 2025-26 campaign, the Ascenders went 20-9 overall, according to MaxPreps.

In recent years, a handful of IMG players have gone on to suit up for the Orange, including former center Jesse Edwards, former power forward Donnie Freeman and Sadiq White Jr., who is a rising sophomore power forward on the current SU roster under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara.

Syracuse basketball is ramping up its 2028 high school recruiting efforts.

Not too long ago, McNamara and his staff re-offered a scholarship to Brunson, who is ranked in the top 30 nationally of the 2028 class by multiple recruiting services. The former Orange staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry had first offered Brunson in June of 2025. Last December, he took an unofficial visit to Syracuse basketball.

According to his Instagram page, besides SU, Brunson's full scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Auburn, Fairfield, Rider, Rutgers, La Salle, Seton Hall, Mississippi State, TCU, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, N.C. State, Villanova, Ole Miss, Louisville, Providence, Kansas, Indiana and Georgia Tech.

Brunson is transferring to IMG from the Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, N.J. In the 2025-26 stanza, he averaged 22.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for Rutgers Prep and was named to the MaxPreps sophomore All-America second team.

This spring and summer on the AAU circuits, Brunson is playing up a division for the 17U team of the New York City-based Renaissance Hoops in Nike's EYBL league. He is averaging 4.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while connecting on 41.2 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Later this month, there will be two live periods in grassroots basketball. I expect McNamara and his staff to be in for Brunson as he plays for the NY Rens on the EYBL circuit.
