Theo Edema, a 2027 four-star big man, seems to be high on Syracuse basketball in the relatively earlier stages of his recruitment.

The 7-foot center recently told 247Sports that schools up there for him right now include the Orange, Auburn, Creighton and Maryland. Encouraging.

In September, the top-50 national prospect in the 2027 cycle took an official visit to the Orange program, and by all accounts, it was a great trip to Central New York for Edema.

After his official visit to the Hill, he told zagsblog.com, “The visit went very well. I had the opportunity to see what it’s like to be in the Orange community. I met with all the coaches (and) the team, I got to see what campus was like, and discuss about academics. ... Their message to me was I would fit right in easily, my playing style fits their system of basketball and my academics would be very good."

These days, Syracuse basketball is in the mix for 2027 4-star center Theo Edema.

The Orange staff offered a scholarship to Edema in late June of this year. He's one of at least 15 prospects in the 2027 class who, at this juncture, have received a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse.

Edema attends the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. When the fall recruiting period got underway in early September, the Syracuse basketball coaching staff was also in for Edema at Cushing.

In the 2024-25 season, he picked up an honorable mention nod for the All-New England Basketball League ("NEBL") teams. In grassroots hoops, Edema has competed for the Boston-based Team New England Basketball Club.

Besides the 'Cuse, Edema's growing offer sheet includes squads such as Creighton, Auburn, Maryland, Providence, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Villanova, Alabama, Kansas, Georgetown, Stanford, Clemson and California.

When I wrote this article on Tuesday, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, within the 2027 cycle, placed Edema at No. 43 nationally, No. 6 at center and No. 1 in Massachusetts.

In recent months, there has been some chatter that Edema could potentially be a re-class candidate into the 2026 cycle, although I'm not aware of any decision that has been made one way or another. As I noted in a separate column on Tuesday morning, several Syracuse basketball 2027 four-star and five-star targets might eye a possible move into the 2026 cycle.
