The transfer portal opens for business on April 7 and will run through April 21. New Syracuse basketball head coach Gerry McNamara and his soon-to-be-named assistant staff are expected to hit the portal hard as part of their roster construction efforts for the 2026-27 season.

We've detailed how some players from McNamara's former school, Siena, could end up following him to the 'Cuse. That might entail players from the Saints' 2025-26 roster or high school prospects who have been tied to Siena in one way or another.

Now, we don't know how many players from SU's 2025-26 roster will return, but plenty of scholarships should be available for GMac to use on college transfers into the Orange program and/or high school recruits.

It's difficult to know what positions of need the 'Cuse will prioritize in the transfer portal, until it's clear which existing Syracuse basketball players will come back next season. However, my sense is that the Orange staff could hone in on a center, a point guard and a wing player who shoots well from deep.

Three transfer prospects whom GMac and Syracuse basketball should pursue.
