The buzz surrounding 2022 four-star guard Chance Westry, who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball more than two years ago, has moved around a bit of late, to say the least.

The 6-foot-5 Westry, a consensus top-40 prospect in this class, had revealed in early August a top 10 of the Orange, Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Maryland, Auburn, LSU, Connecticut, Southern California, Arizona State, Nebraska and DePaul.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t take too much stock in Westry’s top 10 for the time being, particularly since a contender not among these finalists may be emerging as the leader, or at least one of the front-runners, to pick up Westry.

What I can say with some level of confidence is that I don’t think the Orange is going to win out in the recruiting sweepstakes over Westry, who is a senior at Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz.

Syracuse basketball four-star target Chance Westry may announce his choice soon.

Yes, it’s true that over the summer, Westry took an official visit to the Hill. He’s also visited several other college teams, including Nebraska, Auburn, LSU and, most recently, Florida.

You never know for sure how this recruiting stuff will pan out, however, comments from recruiting insiders suggest that Westry is headed somewhere besides the ‘Cuse.

Recruiting guru Joe Tipton of on3.com wrote a piece not too long ago, in which he said that Westry plans to announce his collegiate destination on October 31.

Tipton cited Westry’s Twitter page, although when I checked on Friday evening, I didn’t see a tweet from Westry on this topic. He may have deleted it.

Regardless, it wouldn’t surprise me if Westry does wrap up his recruiting process in the near future. Tipton, citing sources, said that Westry is eyeing another visit to Auburn on October 30.

Over the summer, the rumored leader for Westry was LSU, but we noted in a recent column that those Tigers were no longer in contention for him, according to national analysts.

More recently, Auburn has been getting some buzz for Westry. To that end, again as of Friday night, several predictions for Westry had been logged in the direction of Auburn on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com.

As previously reported by college basketball insider Adam Zagoria, Westry took a visit from September 24 to September 26 to Florida, which hadn’t been among his 10 finalists.

By extension, I’ve seen multiple projections for Westry to Florida on Rivals.com. While I always say to take these recruiting predictions with a grain of salt, we could learn of Westry’s future college home sooner rather than later.
