Consensus top-40 Chance Westry, a four-star guard in the 2022 class who has Syracuse basketball in his top 10, has some buzz apparently surrounding him as it pertains to the Southeastern Conference.

Now, we’re not talking about LSU here, as those Tigers were the rumored front-runner for the 6-foot-5 Westry for a while but are reportedly no longer in contention for him, according to recent media articles.

Another SEC team, Auburn, had picked up at least two predictions from recruiting insiders for Westry as of this writing on Wednesday night.

Both Jerry Meyer and Dushawn London are projecting Westry to Auburn. Meyer is 247Sports’ director of basketball scouting, while London is a national analyst with 247Sports.

Syracuse basketball four-star prospect Chance Westry isn’t likely coming to the Hill.

Westry, who took an official visit to the ‘Cuse over the summer, doesn’t appear to have much buzz these days as it pertains to the Orange.

Anything can happen in the rapidly changing recruiting world, however, I wouldn’t expect him to ultimately select Syracuse basketball.

In early August, Westry revealed on social media a top 10 of the Orange, Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Maryland, Auburn, LSU, Connecticut, Southern California, Arizona State, Nebraska and DePaul.

Westry was reportedly set to take an official visit to Southern California from September 24-26, but those plans have changed, according to college basketball insider Adam Zagoria.

Rather, this coming weekend, Westry is expected to make a trip to Florida, Zagoria said on Twitter. Interestingly enough, the Gators aren’t in Westry’s top 10, although that doesn’t necessarily mean anything at this juncture.

According to both Zagoria and Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, Florida head coach Mike White was earlier this week visiting with Westry at his prep school.

For his senior year, Westry is suiting up for the powerhouse group at Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz. Weingarten added in his tweet that Southern California was also visiting with Westry earlier in the week.

I’ve always been high on Westry, and it will stink if the ‘Cuse doesn’t land him. At the same time, and I mean no disrespect here, but his recruiting process has seemed to be a bit all over the place.

Ultimately, I hope that Westry finds the right college team, and the right fit, for him. If it isn’t Syracuse basketball, stuff happens.

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times lately, keep an eye on Arizona State here, too. According to Zagoria, Sun Devils head coach Bobby Hurley recently visited Westry at Hillcrest Prep, and Arizona State has several targets who play for this prep school, including former Orange 2022 four-star commit Kamari Lands.
