Former Syracuse basketball 2022 four-star commit Kamari Lands and long-time Orange target Chance Westry will form one of the best prep-school combinations across the country in the upcoming campaign.

The 6-foot-8 Lands, who can reportedly suit up at small forward as well as both guard positions, gave a verbal commitment to the ‘Cuse this past April. He is deemed a top-25 prospect in the 2022 cycle, according to several recruiting services. Lands said via Twitter on Saturday that he is reopening his recruitment back up, although some media reports suggested the Orange will remain an option for him.

The 6-foot-5 Westry, an elite four-star combo guard in the 2022 class, received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball more than two years ago. He is a consensus top-40 player in his cycle and has the Orange among his top-10 finalists.

In late June, Westry said on Twitter that he would transfer from the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif., to Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz. The Harrisburg, Pa., native also previously suited up for Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pa.

More recently, Hillcrest Prep said on Twitter that Lands is joining its basketball program. He will transfer there from Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif. Prior to Prolific Prep, Lands played for the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind.

Besides Lands and Westry, the Hillcrest Prep roster also includes Duke Brennan, who is an under-rated center in the 2022 class.

A couple of months ago, we penned a column detailing how Syracuse basketball was reportedly showing interest in the 6-foot-10 Brennan. Since then, I’ve seen a few additional articles that suggest the Orange might be pursuing him.

Brennan is a three-star prospect in the 2022 cycle, according to 247Sports, and that recruiting service also ranks him as the No. 20 center in this class. He holds a bunch of scholarship offers from high-major teams, such as Seton Hall, Arizona State, Wake Forest, Mississippi State and Georgia.

Brennan, Westry and Lands will suit up during their senior seasons for a Hillcrest Prep team that went an impressive 37-1 in its 2020-21 campaign, according to the MaxPreps Web site.

With Lands now on the table, I could foresee Hillcrest Prep being a pre-season top-25 squad heading into the upcoming stanza. Together, Lands and Westry also could make a legitimate case as the top guard and wing duo nationwide.
