In a recent radio interview, HC of the Syracuse football team Dino Babers says he’s not going anywhere. Should SU fans believe him? ITLH breaks it down.

Admittingly it’s a sucky feeling that after the biggest win in recent program history that Syracuse football fans first think of the worst.

I can’t blame Orange fans. They’ve been burned so many times over the last 15 years and it’s hard to stay positive.

While many fans are taking this the wrong way, I think they should change their tune. Babers made his media tour after his team’s victory on Friday night.

  • SportsCenter
  • ESPN
  • Paul Finebaum show
  • The Doug Gottlieb show
  • The Jim Rome show

Just to name a few. While many like our football recruiting analyst, Andrew Carey, they see this as a positive. Syracuse is being talked about more now than they have been in a long time.

On the other side of the fence, it could appear that Babers is being advertised to those other big schools who end up having a potential opening.

Here’s my thing, both of those options are happening. Babers is helping recruiting by being on all these cool popular shows. Also other teams are taking notice of what Babers is doing, how couldn’t they?

Babers has been EVERYWHERE.

But actually I think that’s a good thing. What’s the intrigue of Alabama?

Nick Saban.

He’s a curmudgeon, cranky, irritable, but also a winner. Prisoner of the moment here I know, but he’s the greatest college football coach of all-time. Or at worst a close second to Bear Bryant.

People want Saban and envy what he has. I want the same for Babers. I want schools to wish they had Babers as their man.

There’s a certain intrigue to flaunting off your hot girlfriend to all your buddies.

"“Like look at this, I bet you want it don’t you? Well you can’t have it, but you can look.”"

Well take this for what you will but in a radio interview on Friday morning, Babers was asked has he received any calls or offers to leave here was his response:

"“Because you asked a straight question, I’ll give you a straight answer, no I haven’t. I’m here for the long haul. My wife is getting a fireplace put in and some sort of Jacuzzi machine. We’re here for the long haul.”"

Had to paraphrase a bit because I was hearing it on the way into the radio station this morning. But Babers seems like the type of guy who will stay. How do I know this, I listened to his interview with Jim Rome on CBS Sports Radio on Tuesday.

Babers talked about how he almost thought he would never get an opportunity as a head coach. He had convinced himself that if he couldn’t be a HC, that he’d be the best assistant coach ever. Babers has a staff with him that is very loyal. That seems to be one of the pillars Babers’ belief system is built on. Maybe if SU gives not only Babers a raise but also the rest of his staff it could be a sign of good faith for him to stay for the ‘long haul’. You know, just to be sure.
