Boeheim’s Army is back this summer, so it’s time to introduce the members of this years team. In doing so, we will look back at what each member has done lately.

The last two years I have loved watching Boeheim’s Army play. Since the team first entered itself into the running for The Basketball Tournament, my eyes has been glued to the internet in hopes of learning who would be included on the team.

Knowing full well this team is stacked with Syracuse Alumni, it makes me excited every year to turn on ESPN3 in July and watch them. For me its so special because I grew up watching many of these players as a kid.

I remember Eric Devendorf standing on the sideline railing surrounded by teammates after what seemed to be the buzzer beater in the six overtime Big East Tournament game versus Uconn. I remember Brandon Triche being a silent, but calming guide at the point, nailing his free throws with ease. I can see Donte Greene, in his one season in Orange, pulling up for a three and nailing it.

These are memories that come back to me when I saw this roster. They’re memories i’ll never forget, which is why it’s so neat to see them playing together once again for Boeheim’s Army.

To top it all off, we have the head coach himself lending his name to the team. A team who elects to play mostly 2-3 zone defense, even though they haven’t played it in years. Its easier to play man-to-man defense, which the Army will use from time to time, but mostly you’ll see them play zone. If that isn’t the ultimate sign of loyalty an respect to their coach, team, and fans, then I don’t know what is.

This year, the team is much different than in past years. There are new members, which is good for any team, as it brings a fresh take and energy to the team. As such, I thought it would be awesome to really dive in and learn about what these players have done since they left Syracuse Basketball.

In this Eight-Part Series I will try to remind you of the glory days of each of these players. I won’t be able to address all their biggest moments, but i’ll leave that to you. Hopefully this year’s tournament will help us all create new ones as well.
