What Pat McAfee just said on College GameDay won't sit well with Syracuse football fans

ESPN's "College GameDay" on Saturday has proven lovely - for the most part.

The widely popular pregame college football show has been paying tribute to the legendary Lee Corso all morning. He was slated to make his final headgear pick just before noon, and he'll choose from either No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State. That non-conference battle is taking place in Columbus, Ohio.

However, not too long ago, Pat McAfee, who frankly is my least favorite commentator on GameDay, said in part, "I'm not the biggest Syracuse fan, never have been." Granted, McAfee did pick Syracuse football to cover the spread against No. 24 Tennessee, with the teams eyeing a kickoff at just after 12:00 pm at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Maybe I need to do some investigative research here: Why on Earth does McAfee not like Syracuse? If it's just because the team hasn't been all that relevant for years, save for second-year head coach Fran Brown going 10-3 overall in the 2024 season, then I get it.

But is there another, more personal reason why McAfee isn't a 'Cuse fan? If so, I'd love to know what it is, because that was a cheap shot by McAfee at our beloved Orange. He also said on GameDay that Syracuse lost every player on its team from last season. That's not accurate!

Syracuse football fans aren't too happy with Pat McAfee's comments about the 'Cuse.

On Inside The Loud Loud House's X page, Syracuse fan Rob Boris wrote: "Always thought he was an a-hole. He confirmed it." Well said, Rob.

Over at Inside The Loud House's Facebook page, fellow Orange fan Andy Taylor chimed in with "Bitter West Virginia guy." McAfee, in college, played for the Mountaineers.

Art Pakatar, also on Facebook, wrote: "Never been a Pat McAfee fan." Another Syracuse fan, Jerry Kelly, via Facebook: "He is a tool."

McAfee aside, GameDay, leading up to Corso's final headgear pick, has proven amazing. Sure, another legend, Nick Saban, butchered Syracuse football starting quarterback Steve Angeli's name early on in the show.

Coach Saban: Think peanut butter "and jelly."

Syracuse University alum Mike Tirico and many others have offered wonderful, poignant sentiments on Lee. Coach Corso, soon, will make his final headgear pick. I'm betting on the Buckeyes.
