'We're going to shock the world,' says new Syracuse football 2025 4-star DB commit
By Neil Adler
Kaylib Singleton, a top-flight defensive back who verbally committed to the 'Cuse on Monday night, has some big-time plans during his future tenure on the Hill suiting up for Syracuse football.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Singleton, a speedy athlete who also runs track and field at his Florida high school, took an official visit to the Orange this past weekend, as the 'Cuse hosted and defeated non-conference foe UConn by seven points on Saturday afternoon.
Singleton, rated a four-star senior by Rivals.com, had been pledged to Big Ten Conference member Rutgers but de-committed from the Scarlet Knights more than a month ago. Leading up to his official visit to the 'Cuse, and then again earlier this week, multiple national analysts and recruiting experts logged predictions in the Orange's direction for Singleton.
Those projections rang true, as Singleton said via his X page on Monday evening that he was flipping to Syracuse football ahead of the early signing period for 2025 football prospects, which runs from December 4 through December 6.
More than anything else, a huge congrats and welcome from 'Cuse Nation to Kaylib!
New 4-star DB commit Kaylib Singleton discusses why he chose Syracuse football.
In an interview this week with top 247Sports analyst Mike McAllister, Singleton dished on why he verbally pledged to the Orange and its first-year head coach Fran Brown, an ace recruiter who before leading the 'Cuse was most recently the defensive backs coach at Southeastern Conference powerhouse Georgia.
"I chose Syracuse because I believe in what coach Fran is doing for the program," Singleton said in part to 247Sports. "I felt a connection with the coaching staff and Syracuse school is one of the top programs in America."
A standout senior at Oakleaf High School in Orange Park, Fla., near Jacksonville, Singleton has proven a highly coveted player in the 2025 cycle. His full offer sheet, totaling around two dozen offers, included squads such as Florida, Rutgers, Boston College, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, UCF, West Virginia and USF, among others.
The 'Cuse coaching staff offered a scholarship to Singleton on March 9 of this year. He is a top-35 cornerback in the senior class, per Rivals.com. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, at the time of this writing, placed Singleton in the top 600 overall of the 2025 cycle.
Last Friday, Rivals.com national analyst John Garcia Jr. wrote in part about this new Syracuse football verbal commit, "Known for his wheels after clocking a 10.5-second 100 meter dash mark last spring, Singleton has become a versatile football prospect with reps on offense at wide receiver and on defense as both a cornerback and safety to his name as a senior."
Amid the pledge by Singleton and others, such as 2025 three-star edge Deangelo Thompson Jr. of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, the Orange staff is recruiting at a high level in the Sunshine State. When I wrote this article on Tuesday, the 'Cuse had at least 32 verbal commitments in its senior cycle, a class that ranked in the top 35 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com.
In McAllister's story, Singleton said of his future head coach Brown, "I could just envision myself getting coached by him. He said my size, speed, athleticism and ball skills. I'm like a project with infinite potential. One year with him and I'll be NFL ready."
Regarding his future career in Central New York, Singleton added, "I can promise Syracuse is going to be a top 10 school when I get up there with the great talent and coaching. We're going to shock the world."
