Elite 2026 four-star quarterback Gavin Sidwar from Pennsylvania, who held a Syracuse football offer before committing elsewhere, has reopened his recruitment.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Sidwar said via his X page on October 27 that he was de-committing from Big Ten Conference member Rutgers and reopened his recruiting process. Sidwar is a junior at La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pa., the same program of three-star wide receiver Julian McFadden, who verbally committed to the Orange in its 2025 class this past April.

Sidwar said on X that he received a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse staff, led by first-year head coach Fran Brown, on January 24 of this year. Per social media posts, Sidwar was on the Hill for an unofficial visit on June 21. He verbally pledged to Rutgers on July 1.

According to recruiting services, his full offer sheet has included schools such as Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Pittsburgh, USF, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Following his de-commitment from the Scarlet Knights, teams showing an interest in Sidwar include Syracuse football and Pittsburgh, per a post on X from Steve Wiltfong, who is On3's vice president of national college football recruiting and the transfer portal.

Syracuse football may make another run at 2026 four-star quarterback Gavin Sidwar.

As a sophomore during the 2023 season at La Salle, Sidwar completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 2,439 yards and 29 touchdowns, according to a recent story from Rivals.com national analyst Ryan O'Bleness.

So far in the current 2024 season, La Salle is a perfect 10-0 and ranked the No. 1 program in Pennsylvania and the No. 36 team nationally, per MaxPreps.

Sidwar said to Rivals.com, "Rutgers was great to me from the time they started recruiting me, but I felt like I needed to take more visits and I didn’t want to do it as a 'committed' prospect." Let's see if the Orange staff can get Sidwar to Central New York for another visit at some point in the future.

Within the 2026 cycle, Sidwar's highest rankings currently come from On3, which places him at No. 193 overall, No. 15 at quarterback and No. 5 in Pennsylvania.

At this juncture, the Orange coaching staff has one verbal pledge in its 2026 class, and it's from another Pennsylvania product. This past April, three-star running back D’Antae Sheffey of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pa., verbally committed to Syracuse football.
