Syracuse football's final injury report ahead of the team's home game against Duke on Saturday afternoon notes that 10 Orange players are listed as out in week five.
The 10 'Cuse players are as follows:
•Redshirt senior wide receiver Umari Hatcher
•Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tyshawn Russell
•Redshirt junior quarterback Steve Angeli (out for the remainder of the 2025 season)
•Freshman wide receiver Darius Johnson
•Redshirt senior linebacker Derek McDonald
•Redshirt junior defensive back Nate Prater
•Sophomore running back/return man Malachi James
•Freshman offensive lineman Jackson Iak
•Freshman offensive lineman Matthew Hawn
•Freshman wide receiver Julian McFadden
Even though four wide receivers are out, the Orange's WR room is extremely deep, so I'm not concerned about that position group. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Rickie Collins will take over for the injured Angeli, and head coach Fran Brown is confident that Collins will thrive.
Syracuse football has 10 guys out in week five.
For conference games, the ACC requires its member schools to submit injury reports on Thursday and Friday nights, and then again on Saturday before their contests. In earlier injury reports for the 'Cuse, players listed as questionable or probable included redshirt senior defensive back Duce Chestnut, junior wide receiver Johntay Cook II, redshirt senior defensive lineman Dion Wilson Jr., senior defensive back Devin Grant, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Trevion Mack, redshirt senior defensive lineman Denis Jaquez Jr., redshirt junior linebacker Gary Bryant III and redshirt sophomore defensive back Chris Peal.
Against Duke (2-2, 1-0 in the ACC), Syracuse football (3-1, 1-0 in the ACC) will face a potent passing attack, led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah, a transfer from Tulane. I'd keep an eye on the Orange's secondary. Will any cornerbacks or safeties listed above be limited on Saturday afternoon? It's something to monitor.
On Saturday morning, FanDuel had the Blue Devils as a 4.5-point betting favorite on the road against Syracuse football, with the over/under set at 60.5 points. While Duke has a worse record than the Orange entering week five, odds-makers likely have the Blue Devils as the betting favorite because of the quarterback change for the 'Cuse.
Regardless of the odds, if Collins settles in nicely, the run game is good, the defense makes big plays like it did last Saturday at Clemson, and the offensive/defensive lines hold their own, Syracuse football will beat Duke at home.
