It remains to be seen if the programs can get it approved by the NCAA, but Syracuse football and Colorado are trying to hold joint practices and a scrimmage together in April, according to multiple media reports, including this one from new beat reporter Javon Edmonds of Syracuse.com.

By the way, please give Javon a follow.

Per Edmonds' article, the Orange and Colorado, through their respective compliance offices, have filed paperwork with the NCAA as they seek approval to conduct joint practices and hold a scrimmage in Boulder, Colo., next month.

This past season, first-year head coach Fran Brown guided the 'Cuse to a 10-3 overall record and a No. 20 ranking in the final Associated Press top-25 poll. The Buffaloes, led by head coach and former Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders, finished at 9-4 overall in the 2024 term, along with a No. 25 ranking in the AP poll.

Syracuse football would like to scrimmage with Colorado next month.

During the spring, football programs "are allowed 15 practices within a 35-day window during the spring. Colorado’s spring game is set for April 19 and Syracuse’s last practice is the same day," Edmonds wrote.

Per a recent post on X, the Orange's spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, with a start time of 3:00 pm from the JMA Wireless Dome.

Per reports, Brown said that the 'Cuse would adjust its practice schedule to adhere to NCAA regulations and enable the Orange to scrimmage with Colorado.

"For us to be the first to do it at two historic schools would mean a lot," Brown recently said following Syracuse football's first spring practice. "Two African-American men, too. To have the opportunity of doing that means a lot. Especially with [Deion Sanders] being an icon."

In recent weeks, and even further back than that, reports have come out stating that some college football squads are canceling their annual spring games, due to concerns about injuries and player tampering amid the transfer portal's explosion.

Brown has said that he will keep conducting spring games. He's also said in the past that he's not concerned about tampering, because he's confident in what he's building on the Hill. Also, I should note here that players who decide they want to transfer out of the Orange program would likely be doing so regardless of whether Syracuse football holds a spring game or not.

If the NCAA were to grant approval to this idea from the 'Cuse and Colorado, it would be tremendous for both teams and the sport, in my humble opinion. Sanders is a football legend, and Brown put forth a stellar first campaign in Central New York.

Edmonds did write, though, that "while spring scrimmages aren’t allowed under NCAA bylaws, the two programs are actively lobbying the NCAA for a quick change to bring the exhibition to fruition within the next month."
