Former Syracuse football star linebacker Marlowe Wax and other 'Cuse alumni fared well in recent days as the NFL held preseason games.
On Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers won at home over New Orleans, 27-13. For the Chargers, the 6-foot-1, 236-pound Wax had himself a day. Per ESPN, he tallied nine total tackles, nine solo tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hit.
Following the 2025 NFL Draft in April of this year, Wax signed with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent. His Chargers' teammate is former Orange All-American tight end Oronde Gadsden II, who was picked by Los Angeles in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, at No. 165 overall.
In the victory over the Saints, Gadsden had two catches for 15 receiving yards.
Former Syracuse football stars balled out this weekend in NFL preseason games.
On Sunday, Wax and Gadsden faced off against a former Orange teammate, defensive end Fadil Diggs. The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Diggs, in New Orleans' setback, produced four total tackles, three solo tackles, one sack and two tackles for a loss.
The Saints chose Diggs in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, at No. 254 overall. As I noted in another column, former Syracuse football All-ACC wide receiver Jackson Meeks was awesome as Detroit defeated Atlanta on the road, 17-10.
The 6-foot-2, 182-pound Meeks, who signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent, hauled in three catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.
Former Orange All-American running back Sean Tucker carried the ball 13 times for 50 yards and one score on the ground as his squad, Tampa Bay, won at home over Tennessee, 29-7. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Tucker, who is entering his third year in the NFL, could see his playing time increase with the Buccaneers in the upcoming season.
On Saturday, the Los Angeles Rams hosted the Dallas Cowboys, with the Rams prevailing, 31-21. For the Cowboys, former Syracuse football defensive back Alijah Clark had five total tackles, and all five of them were solo tackles. The 6-foot-1, 187-pound Clark signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent.
Also on Saturday, Pittsburgh knocked off Jacksonville on the road, 31-25. For the Jaguars, former 'Cuse All-ACC running back LeQuint Allen Jr. collected four pass catches for 20 yards. The 6-foot, 201-pound Allen, selected by Jacksonville in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft at No. 236 overall, appears to have carved out a nice role with his pro team.
