The Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore has an elite football program, and Syracuse is building a pipeline with the Panthers. This, of course, pleases me to no end, since Baltimore is my hometown.

On Saturday night, 2027 three-star running back/athlete Sa’Nir Brooks, a junior at Saint Frances, announced his verbal commitment to the Orange. A huge congrats and welcome to Sa’Nir!

Syracuse football is up to 10 verbal pledges in its 2027 class.

Maurice Medley, a three-star linebacker/athlete from Saint Frances, is a member of the Orange's record-setting 2026 cycle at the high school level.

According to SU athletics, as a senior (and a team captain) for the Panthers, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Medley tallied 87 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, one interception that he returned for a touchdown, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. Tremendous.

Another Saint Frances standout is 2027 three-star tight end Michael Nnabuife. In November of 2025, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Nnabuife disclosed a top six of Syracuse football, Alabama, N.C. State, Maryland, Florida and Michigan State.

Per a source, Nnabuife is planning to be on the Hill for a Syracuse football junior day on Saturday, Jan. 31, when the program will host recruits at the JMA Wireless Dome as Syracuse basketball plays Notre Dame.

Brooks, offered a scholarship by the 'Cuse in September of 2024, chose Syracuse football over offers from other schools such as Michigan State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, South Florida, Maryland and Virginia Tech, among others.

Within the 2027 class, Brooks is a high-three-star prospect. He is a top-10 player in Maryland. Per 247Sports, he is the No. 21 running back. And the industry-generated 247Sports Composite places Brooks as the No. 437 overall prospect in this cycle.

Syracuse football, as I wrote this column, has 10 verbal pledges in 2027. On January 23, 2027 offensive lineman Edwin Guzman of Erie High School in Erie, Pa., announced his verbal commitment to the Orange.

The 247Sports Composite, on Sunday, had the 'Cuse 2027 class at No. 5 nationally - a stellar start for head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff. Only Oklahoma, at 13, has more 2027 verbal pledges than Syracuse football.
