Syracuse football has added further depth at the wide receiver position group for the 2025 season.

Rutgers senior wide receiver Chris Long, a three-star transfer prospect who visited the Hill earlier this week, said via his social media accounts that he has committed to the Orange and its first-year head coach, Fran Brown.

The 6-foot, 177-pound Long has one season of collegiate eligibility left. First and foremost, a huge congrats and welcome from 'Cuse Nation to Chris. During his tenure with the Scarlet Knights, Long had played in 32 games while hauling in 28 receptions for 391 yards and two scores through the air.

Rutgers, in the 2024 campaign, has sported a 7-5 overall record and will face Kansas State at the Rate Bowl on December 26 in Phoenix.

Syracuse football has already landed at least two college transfers from the portal.

Long was a four-star player via 247Sports while a member of the 2020 recruiting cycle. He starred for Willingboro High School in Willingboro, N.J. According to media reports, Long's primary recruiter when he joined the Scarlet Knights was Brown, who is one of several 'Cuse coaches hailing from New Jersey.

Looking ahead to the 2025 term for the Orange, All-ACC second-team performer Jackson Meeks will have exhausted his collegiate eligibility, although numerous wide receivers on the team's 2024 roster are expected to return.

Plus, in the squad's large 2025 cycle at the high school level, Syracuse football will have several three-star wide receivers coming on board as incoming freshmen.

The current transfer portal window opened for business on December 9 and runs through December 28. Various college transfers at different positions have either visited the Orange already or plan to soon.

Three-star offensive lineman transfer Naquil Betrand, who also recently took a visit to the Hill, committed to Syracuse football on Tuesday. The 6-foot-6, 328-pound Betrand, a former 'Cuse prep recruit coming out of Philadelphia, most recently suited up for Alabama and then Texas A&M before that.

Betrand has three years of college eligibility remaining. This gives the Orange staff at least two pledges from the portal, and I have a feeling that we might see even more transfer commitments for the 'Cuse in the near future.

Earlier this month, during the early signing period at the high school level, Syracuse football coaches signed 34 pledges, the most in the country. The Orange's 2025 class currently hovers around the top 40 nationally, per several recruiting services.
