On Monday, a top Syracuse football assistant visited one of the best edge rushers in the 2027 class.

Per a post on his X page, 2027 four-star edge Mekai Brown received an in-school visit from Elijah Robinson, who is the Orange's assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.

Fun.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Brown is a standout at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, Conn.

Brown landed a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse on February 2, 2025. On March 29, he traveled to Central New York for a visit to the Orange to check out a Syracuse football spring practice.

Syracuse football is in pursuit of a top-flight edge rusher in the 2027 cycle.

According to recruiting services, Brown's early scholarship offer sheet also includes schools such as UConn, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Boston College. I assume as his recruiting process carries onward, his offer list will significantly expand.

Within the 2027 class, Brown is highly ranked. For one, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite places him at No. 125 overall, No. 15 at edge and No. 1 in Connecticut.

Nationally speaking, 247Sports has Brown at No. 120, while he is No. 175 overall in his cycle via the On3 Web site. Numerous recruiting services deem him a top-20 edge rusher in the 2027 class.

To date, Syracuse football has secured at least three verbal commitments among prospects who are heading into their junior years of high school. All of them are currently rated three stars on the 247Sports Web site.

Those 2027 pledges to the 'Cuse are from defensive back Travis Miles of Hillside High School in Hillside, N.J., athlete Tank White of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., and quarterback Justin Dixon of the Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, Md.

When I wrote this column on Tuesday afternoon, the 247Sports Composite had the Syracuse football 2027 class at No. 8 nationally.

It's super early in 2027, but the Orange appears to be poised for a strong-looking class in this cycle. As I've noted in other columns lately, the team's 2026 class is No. 9 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite.

In the 2025 cycle, via 247Sports, this Syracuse football class is No. 41 at the high school level, No. 44 from the transfer portal and No. 53 overall.
