Georgia product Jalen Welch, a four-star safety who is one of the highest-ranked verbal commits for Syracuse football in its 2027 class, will take a game-day visit to the Hill this fall.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Welch will go on an unofficial visit to the Orange when it hosts fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad SMU on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the JMA Wireless Dome, Inside the Loud House has learned.

Welch, a top-400 national prospect in the high school senior class, verbally committed to the 'Cuse on June 16 of this year, a few days after going on an official visit to Syracuse football. He suits up for one of the top prep programs around the country, Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., near Atlanta.
Last year, Grayson went 12-1 overall, reached the quarterfinals of the Georgia High School Association ("GHSA") Class 6A state playoffs and was ranked No. 13 nationally by MaxPreps. As a junior, Welch tallied 19 solo tackles, 36 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss, two interceptions and five pass breakups, per MaxPreps.
Looking ahead to the 2026 campaign, when Welch will be a senior, Grayson is currently No. 13 in the MaxPreps preseason top 25.

Syracuse football will get a game-day visit in late October from 4-safety Jalen Welch, an SU 2027 verbal pledge.
Welch is one of at least three Orange commits in its 2027 cycle who are rated four stars by at least one recruiting service, with the other two being running back Elijah Kimble from New York and wide receiver Chanin Harris from South Carolina. Buffalo standout Kimble, as Inside the Loud House reported last weekend, will take two game-day visits to SU this fall, including for the SMU encounter.
In the 2027 class, the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking places Welch at No. 365 overall, No. 34 at safety and No. 39 in Georgia. Over at the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he is No. 412 nationally, No. 38 at safety and No. 46 in Georgia.
ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals all have Welch inside the top 40 at his position within the 2027 cycle.

Over the weekend, Syracuse football landed two more 2027 pledges, pushing its total in this class to 26. The latest verbal commits are three-star athlete Amari Eliano of Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, and defensive lineman Chima Okechukwu of the Mt. Zion Preparatory Academy in Lanham, Md.
At the time of this writing, the Orange's 2027 cycle was No. 39 overall, according to 247Sports, and No. 45 nationwide, per Rivals.
