Syracuse women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack on Friday conducted an in-home visit on the West Coast with the nation's No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 class, five-star point guard Kaleena Smith, a source tells Inside the Loud House.
The 5-foot-6 Smith is the consensus No. 1 national player in the high school senior class. Understandably, she holds a flood of scholarship offers from some big-time women's college basketball programs, but national analysts continue to maintain that the Orange is in the mix for her. Legette-Jack and her staff offered Smith in July 2025.
This past February, Smith took an official visit to the 'Cuse. You can view her SU official visit photos via her Instagram page. The fall recruiting period began on September 9, and per recruiting analysts, Smith has been conducting in-home visits with other suitors, too.
About a month ago, ESPN's Shane Laflin wrote that college squads remaining in contention for Smith include "UConn, USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Baylor, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Louisville, LSU, Cal, Oklahoma, Georgia, Washington and Arizona State."

During the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, Smith will be a senior at the powerhouse Ontario Christian School in Ontario, Calif., near Los Angeles. As a junior, she was the MaxPreps national player of the year and averaged 31.5 points, 6.9 assists, 4.5 steals and 3.7 rebounds per game.
In 2025-26, according to MaxPreps, Smith connected on 54 percent from the field, 38 percent from beyond the arc and 89 percent from the free-throw line. Last season, the Ontario Christian School went 34-2 overall and was crowned the girls' high school national champion by MaxPreps.
Earlier this week, Inside the Loud House noted that Smith and the Ontario Christian School will face the St. James Academy from Springfield, Va., on national television at the preseason showcase known as the Border League on October 4 in Las Vegas.
My sense is that Smith's recruitment remains relatively open, and it wouldn't surprise me if she ends up signing during the regular period next April, rather than during the early period this November.
Does SU have a shot at Smith? Given that she's officially visited Syracuse women's basketball and conducted an in-home visit with the Orange on Friday, that likely means there is sizable interest among the player and the program. The competition is steep, of course, but Legette-Jack and her assistants are strong recruiters.
