Syracuse basketball coaches have made at least one offer so far to a high school prospect in the 2028 class, and the Orange staff is showing an interest in other players within this cycle.
Two 2028 prospects for Syracuse basketball fans to monitor are wing Billy Stanfield III and forward Jaylen Allen, both of whom hail from the Baltimore area, which is one of the more vital recruiting markets for the 'Cuse around the country.
Per 247Sports, the 6-foot-6 Stanfield and the 6-foot-8 Allen are receiving interest from Syracuse basketball. In recent months, a source of mine has told me that Stanfield is on the Orange staff's radar as well.
Stanfield is heading into his sophomore year at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Md. Allen attends the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore. This spring and summer on the AAU circuit, Stanfield and Allen are each playing for the 15U squad of the Baltimore-based Team Melo in Nike's EYBL league.
Syracuse basketball is just getting going with its 2028 recruiting efforts.
The EYBL has conducted two spring sessions so far, in Mesa, Ariz., and then in Memphis, Tenn., last weekend during a live period with college coaches in attendance, including the Orange coaching staff.
Through the first two sessions, Stanfield is averaging 7.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest, according to the EYBL Web site. Allen is averaging 3 points and 4 rebounds per game.
This weekend, from May 23 to May 26, the Nike circuit is holding its third spring session in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo. Then, the EYBL's season-ending Peach Jam tournament will take place in July in North Augusta, S.C.
I'll continue to monitor how Stanfield and Allen perform in the EYBL league. From a recruiting perspective, it's extremely early for both players, although they've both landed some offers and interest from various college programs at this juncture.
According to recruiting Web sites and social media posts, Stanfield holds offers from schools such as West Virginia, Texas A&M, TCU and Mississippi State. Per 247Sports, besides 'Cuse, he has garnered interest from teams including Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennesse, Texas and Texas A&M.
Allen, meanwhile, has secured offers from Maryland and West Virginia, while receiving interest from Syracuse basketball and Pittsburgh.
On May 19, 2028 point guard Tyylon Ennis said via X that he was offered a scholarship by the Orange staff. The 6-foot Ennis, out of Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas, and the 15U team of Houston-based JL3 on the EYBL circuit, is the younger brother of former Syracuse basketball star point guard Tyler Ennis.
