Syracuse basketball pays a visit to 4-star, top-10 point guard Neiko Mundey from DMV
By Neil Adler
Amid the fall recruiting period that commenced in early September, Syracuse basketball coaches have hit the road to watch a variety of high school prospects during open gyms at their respective high schools.
One of those players is fast-rising Neiko Mundey, a four-star point guard in the 2026 class who hails from the talent-rich Washington, D.C., region - a market for which the 'Cuse staff has deep, long-standing recruiting connections.
The 6-foot-3 Mundey is a standout junior at the Shabach Christian Academy in Landover, Md., and he also shines on the AAU circuit for the D.C. area-based New World in the Adidas 3SSB league.
In late August of 2023, Mundey took an unofficial visit to the Hill to compete in the Orange's annual Elite Camp. It was around that time that he picked up a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball.
Syracuse basketball was recently on hand for 2026 four-star point guard Neiko Mundey.
Per a post on X from the account HS Top Recruits, college squads that have recently been in to see Mundey amid the fall recruiting period include the 'Cuse, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Oklahoma State.
HS Top Recruits also said that Mundey recently went on unofficial visits to both Alabama and Florida out of the Southeastern Conference.
According to recruiting services, beyond Syracuse basketball, Mundey's full offer sheet includes schools such as West Virginia, Hampton, Wake Forest, George Washington, Florida State, Towson, East Carolina, Old Dominion, Illinois, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
At the time of this writing, within the 2026 cycle, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking placed Mundey in the top 75 overall. Currently, his highest 2026 rankings come via 247Sports, which has Mundey at No. 54 nationally, No. 8 at point guard and No. 2 in Maryland.
In the summer of 2023, Mundey was a key contributor in helping lead New World to the 15U championship of the Adidas 3SSB league. This past spring and summer, during the 2024 AAU season, he received high marks from national analysts and scouts for his performances for New World's 16U squad.
In early September of last year, a few days after the Orange offered Mundey, top DMV analyst/scout Colby Giacubeno told me at the time that "Mundey is … a naturally wired scorer. His passing has improved since he entered high school, but his quick burst, creativeness off the bounce and ability to get where he wants make him exciting to watch anytime the ball is in his hands."
As it pertains to Syracuse basketball's recruiting efforts in this class, I'm aware of at least 11 juniors, including Mundey, who have landed offers from the Orange, while the 'Cuse staff is showing an interest in various other 2026 prospects.
