Four-star Neiko Mundey, a fast-rising point guard from the Washington, D.C., area, is one of at least eight 2026 prospects who have received a scholarship offer from the Syracuse basketball staff to date.
The 6-foot-3 Mundey, in late August of last year, took an unofficial visit to the Hill to compete in the Orange's annual Elite Camp. It was around that time he disclosed a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse, and I got some fabulous insights on Mundey's all-around game from top analyst/scout Colby Giacubeno not long after that Orange offer rolled in.
Per his X page and recruiting services, besides Syracuse basketball, Mundey's offer sheet to date also includes schools such as Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Mississippi State, Illinois, East Carolina, Old Dominion and Towson.
Ranked in the top 100 nationally by numerous recruiting services, Mundey will soon see his offer list greatly expand. That's because on June 15, college coaches can start initiating direct contact with rising high school juniors. Once that contact period opens for 2026 players, I believe Mundey will see many more big offers arrive.
Syracuse basketball 2026 four-star recruit Neiko Mundey is aiming for a second straight AAU crown.
As a freshman, Mundey played at Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md. This past season, in the 2023-24 campaign as a sophomore, he suited up for the Shabach Christian Academy in Landover, Md.
In the summer of 2023, Mundey was a pivotal contributor in helping lead New World to the 15U championship of the Adidas 3SSB league. During the title game of this division, he tallied 21 points, according to media reports at the time.
This year's AAU circuit is now in full swing, and Mundey is off to a hot start for the 16U team of New World, a grassroots basketball program that is based in the talent-rich Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
So far, the Adidas 3SSB league has held sessions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and in Hoover, Ala. I've come across numerous social media posts and reports from national analysts and scouts stating that Mundey has proven a standout in the 16U division at this juncture.
Per its Web site, the Adidas 3SSB league will hold a third session from May 17 to May 19 in Bryan, Texas. This circuit's season-ending playoffs are scheduled for July 9 to July 14 in Rock Hill, S.C.
In a recent interview with media outlet Pro Insight, Mundey says that he's laser-focused on winning another AAU championship this summer. He said that it was a wonderful memory to capture the Adidas 3SSB's 15U grand prize a year ago; Mundey added that he and his New World teammates will have to be locked in on both ends of the court, particularly on the defensive side, to repeat as champs.
Beyond AAU, Mundey says he's excited for the contact period to open up so that he can "stack up" more offers. He told Pro Insight that a couple of teams he's highly interested in are Villanova, Houston and UConn, which has won the last two NCAA Tournaments.
Beginning on August 1, rising high school juniors can commence taking official visits to college campuses, and I'll be interested to see if the Orange lands one from Mundey. As I've noted on many occasions, multiple 'Cuse coaches have deep recruiting ties to the D.C. and Baltimore markets, so hopefully those connections will prove advantageous in trying to prevail for Mundey.
When I wrote this article, Mundey's highest 2026 rankings came from 247Sports, which placed him at No. 52 nationally, No. 6 at point guard and No. 3 in Maryland.
