With news of J'Lon Lyons from the DMV setting an official visit to Syracuse basketball for September, the Orange is in the lead for the 2027 four-star point guard, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Let me caution, though, that Syracuse's current advantage in Lyons' recruitment absolutely could change as he locks in more official visits. Per Rivals, the 6-foot-3 Lyons took unofficial visits to both Georgetown and VCU last September, but the 'Cuse is his first scheduled official visit.
Lyons, a top-50 national prospect who is being recruited extremely hard by Syracuse basketball these days, will officially visit the Orange from September 11 to September 13, a source confirms to me. On Tuesday, national analyst Sam Kayser was the first to report this news.
In interviews, Lyons has said that he's building a strong relationship with the Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. The floor general is in regular communication with the 'Cuse. It should be noted that SU assistant coach Ryan Daly previously was an assistant at VCU, which is another big-time suitor for Lyons.
The former Orange staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry first offered a scholarship to Lyons in June of last year. McNamara and his assistants, these days, are putting on a full-court press for Lyons; they were in for him last weekend at DMV Live during a scholastic live period as he competed for the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md.
Syracuse basketball is in the mix for 2027 4-star PG J'Lon Lyons.

Other college teams that are likely to get an official visit from Lyons include Butler, Maryland, Pittsburgh and VCU, among others. Lyons has said he will cut his list at some point, and he's eyeing a college decision in September.
Lyons, this spring and summer, is competing for the 17U squad of the Washington, D.C.-based Team Takeover in Nike's EYBL league. His full offer sheet is extensive and features schools such as Cincinnati, Washington, Boston College, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Butler, Alabama, George Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, Providence, Virginia Tech, Florida State, George Mason, Georgetown and Morehead State.
Within the 2027 cycle, according to the primary recruiting services, Lyons hovers around the top 50 nationally. He's also a top-15 point guard and either the No. 1 or the No. 2 prospect coming from Maryland in the rising senior class.
