According to Kayser, the 6-foot-2, 187-pound Jones "is working on setting up a couple more visits."
Jones was a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, per ESPN. Several recruiting services listed him in the top 150 nationally in this class. He hails from the talent-rich Washington, D.C., metropolitan region, a key recruiting market for the Orange coaching staff.
Syracuse basketball has inquired about Clemson transfer guard Del Jones.
In the 2024-25 season, Clemson went 27-7 overall, reached the NCAA Tournament and was one of the Atlantic Coast Conference's top teams. As a freshman for the Tigers, Jones averaged 11.8 minutes, 3.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest while making 40.3 percent from the field, 31.1 percent from beyond the arc and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.
In an evaluation of Jones in mid-October of 2023, 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein wrote in part, "The first two things that stand out about Jones’ are his speed and toughness. He’s a legitimate combo-guard, who is equally capable of playing on or off the ball. He has both pace and creativity when making plays for himself and others, but can be inefficient with his decision-making at times. ... Jones is probably at his best when he embraces being a true point guard and picks his spots a bit more judiciously, while still showing that same willingness to be aggressive in big moments. Physically, he has decent positional size for a lead guard, and while he is very fast, he plays primarily under the rim."
The current transfer portal window opened on March 24 and will run through April 22. Reports have indicated a handful of college transfers who have heard from Syracuse basketball coaches, including Jones, Arkansas State junior guard Derrian Ford, Robert Morris junior guard/forward Amarion Dickerson, North Dakota junior guard Treysen Eaglestaff, North Dakota State senior guard Jacari White and Drexel junior guard Kobe Magee.
This past Thursday night, transfer big man William Kyle III, a junior at UCLA, said via social media that he was committing to the Orange.
The 'Cuse went 14-19 in 2024-25. Five players on the Orange's 12-man roster this past stanza exhausted their eligibility. Four players have decided to enter the portal. Junior guard J.J. Starling and freshman power forward Donnie Freeman will return in 2025-26. Syracuse basketball also will bring in a four-member 2025 class at the prep level.
