It's been well-documented over the years that many Syracuse basketball fans don't like Doug Gottlieb.

I get it. Gottlieb isn't afraid to call it as he sees it, and that's no different than the Orange's legendary former head coach, the Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim.

Now, as someone who has been a fan of 'Cuse hoops for decades, and I graduated from SU in 2000, I have a strong allegiance to Boeheim and the Syracuse basketball program. That being said, when an analyst or other commentator criticizes the Orange, perhaps sometimes that criticism is warranted, even if some 'Cuse fans think it's a cheap shot.

Either way, Boeheim has made comments in the past that seemed to be directed at Gottlieb, although Gottlieb told Brent Axe of Syracuse.com back in May of 2016 that he doesn't hold a grudge against the Orange and even grew up as a fan of Syracuse basketball.

There are very few people on this planet that I dislike, however, if I'm being honest, I'm not a fan of Gottlieb. I think he runs his mouth too much, but then again, in the age of social media, experts and fans alike take to Facebook, X, etc., and provide their opinions, whether those opinions are valid and well-informed, or they're not. It's just the world we live in, for better or for worse.

Syracuse basketball fans, by and large, do not like Doug Gottlieb.

Gottlieb played most of his collegiate ball at Oklahoma State. He competed at the professional level for several years and then got into broadcasting in the early 2000s.

On May 14 of this year, he was named the head coach of Horizon League member Green Bay. So far in the 2024-25 season, it's proven a struggle for the Phoenix, which is on a seven-game losing streak and 2-10 overall as Green Bay prepares to host Michigan Tech on December 18.

On Tuesday, Gottlieb got into a little back-and-forth on X with ESPN's senior NFL insider, Adam Schefter. Earlier this week, Schefter had made a report regarding Michael Vick having discussions about potentially becoming the next head coach at Sacramento State.

In that report, Schefter also noted substantial NIL funds being raised to support the Sacramento State program. Gottlieb responded via X in a manner that seemed to call into question Schefter's reporting.

One of Schefter's responses was golden. He said, "And Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game losing steak and last place in the Horizon League? Less time on social media and more time in the gym."

Lol. Love it. Schefter called Gottlieb out for not doing his homework, and I'm all for it. I assume that many Syracuse basketball fans also delighted in how Schefter crushed Gottlieb on social media.
