One of the top 2027 prospects around the country, who is on the radar of the Syracuse basketball staff, is transferring to one of the premier prep-school programs nationwide.
According to a recent X post from Steve Hewitt, who is the editor of the New England Basketball Journal, 2027 four-star shooting guard Patrick Otey is moving to the powerhouse St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn., for his upcoming junior term.
This past season, as a sophomore in the 2024-25 campaign, Otey suited up as a sophomore in the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite (OTE). In the 2024-25 OTE regular season, Otey averaged 9.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game, while during the playoffs, he averaged 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per encounter.

As a freshman, Otey, who is from Westwood, Mass., played for the CATS Academy in Boston.
Syracuse basketball has reached out to numerous 2027 four-star and five-star prospects of late.
Otey is ranked as high as No. 21 overall in his class by Rivals.com. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, at the time of this writing, had him in the top 40 nationally and in the top six at shooting guard.
According to recruiting services, Otey's full scholarship offer sheet includes teams such as Villanova, Xavier, Washington, Providence and Eastern Washington. Hewitt, in his social media post, says that Otey also has an offer from Florida State.
Naturally, his offer list is going to significantly grow, especially since college coaches could begin contacting 2027 players directly on June 15. Speaking of that, since the 2027 contact period opened in mid-June, Syracuse basketball coaches have reached out to at least two dozen rising juniors, including Otey.
Recently, various Orange four-star recruiting targets have disclosed their new high school programs for the 2025-26 season. You can read my piece on that by clicking here.
Otey's new home, St. Thomas More, is a juggernaut in prep-school hoops. In 2024-25, St. Thomas More reached the final game of the 2025 National Prep Championship in West Hartford, Conn., an annual event that crowns a national champ in prep-school basketball.

In that final contest, St. Thomas More lost by a count of 79-72 to the Putnam Science Academy from Putnam, Conn. A standout for St. Thomas More this past season was 2025 four-star forward London Jemison, who took an official visit to Syracuse basketball in late December of 2023 but ultimately committed to Alabama.
