Over the next few days, Syracuse basketball 2025 recruit Shon Abaev from Florida is suiting up during a third session in the current AAU season on the Under Armour Association ("UAA") circuit.
This session, which occurs during an NCAA live period, is taking place in Georgia. Then, from July 19 to July 21 in Illinois, the UAA league will hold its season-ending playoffs amid another evaluation period.
The 6-foot-8 Abaev, a four-star wing/small forward and a consensus top-50 national prospect in the rising high school senior class, has proven one of the top performers dating back to the spring on the UAA circuit.
As I noted in another recent column, during two spring sessions while suiting up for the 17U team of the Pembroke Pines, Fla.-based SOH Elite, Abaev averaged 22.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. The experts at The Circuit named him their offensive MVP in the UAA league during those sessions that ran from late April to mid-May.
Syracuse basketball got officially involved with 2025 4-star Shon Abaev earlier this year.
In late April, the Orange staff offered a scholarship to Abaev. Per his X page and recruiting services, his full offer sheet includes schools such as Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Xavier, Missouri, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, Arizona State, Auburn, Creighton, Dayton, Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, St. John's, Southern California, UCF and USF, among others.
A standout rising senior at the Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Abaev has taken recent official visits to Georgia and Arizona State, as well as prior official visits to Oregon and Tennessee.
Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting for 247Sports, noted in a piece this week that Abaev is a top prospect to watch in UAA competition. Finkelstein writes that Abaev could end up visiting schools such as Syracuse basketball and Michigan, adding that West Virginia "has also jumped in the mix recently."
Abaev is a "volume scorer on the wing with good positional size. Maybe more than any other player in the UAA, the southpaw is capable of sizing up his defender and creating his own shot," Finkelstein says.
Dating back to mid-April, Abaev is one of at least six players in the 2025 cycle who have received a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse. In recent months, I've come across a couple of media reports indicating that the Orange staff is in regular contact with Abaev.
Let's see if Syracuse basketball can get this talented and versatile rising senior on the Hill for an official visit in the coming months.
Currently, Abaev's highest 2025 national ranking comes via On3, which places him at No. 30 around the country.
