Syracuse football coaches are giving it a go for the country’s No. 1 high school prospect in the 2025 class.

Per his X page, 2025 five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. from Charlotte, N.C., has received a scholarship offer from the Orange coaching staff.

The 6-foot-7, 265-pound Sanders, a consensus top-five overall player in the junior cycle, is a standout at the Providence Day School in Charlotte who was a first-team All-American during the 2023 season.

Understandably, Sanders has a ton of impressive suitors. According to recruiting services, he has amassed more than 35 offers from a range of high-major programs, so the competition for the ‘Cuse to prevail for Sanders will prove extremely challenging.

In late December, MaxPreps named Sanders to its junior All-America first team for the 2023 campaign.

During the last term, per MaxPreps, Providence Day captured the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (“NCISAA”) Division I state championship.

All of the primary recruiting services rate Sanders in the top five nationally, the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 1 player coming out of North Carolina.

Currently, Rivals.com has him as the No. 1 national prospect in the 2025 cycle. At the time of this writing, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking place Sanders as the No. 2 overall player in the junior class.

Orange head coach Fran Brown and his staff, over the past two months, have put together a strong 2024 class consisting of talented high school seniors and college transfers.

What’s more, ‘Cuse coaches are hitting the recruiting trail hard as it pertains to their 2025 efforts. Last Saturday, the Orange held one of its junior days, welcoming a flood of recruits to the Hill on unofficial visits.

Beyond Sanders, Syracuse football coaches have doled out a bevy of scholarship offers to highly ranked 2025 players, including prospects who are rated five stars and in the top 50 nationwide.

I’m sure that some of my fellow Orange fans view the ‘Cuse as a huge long shot to win out for Sanders, and that’s fair. But as I often say, you can’t land a commitment from a top-flight player unless you offer him first.

It’s an exciting time for the Syracuse football program.
